SANG OUK JUNG,
THE BASS PLAYER

Composer, Music Director

and Band Leader

A New York-based bass player Sang Ouk Jung, was born in Busan, South Korea.  He started to study music at Kyung-Hee University in Korea  (post-modern music major). It didn’t take too long for him to play with great jazz musicians in Korea. 


 He moved to Boston MA, started to study at Berklee College of Music for his BM degree with Dave Santoro, John Lockwood, Whit Brown, Hal Crook, Terrylyn Carrington and Darren Barrett. Also, He studied at New England Conservatory with Cecil Mcbee, Dave Holland, ken Schaphorst, Don Palma and Ethan Iverson for his MM degree.


 He was invited to perform worldwide such as a DC Jazz Festival 2018, Pyeong Chang 2018, celebration the UN Olympic truce resolution at permanent mission of republic of korea to the united nation, NY, World Milal Orchestra 2017 Concert at Carnegie hall, NY ,Beantown Jazz festival in Boston, MA, Promising Artists Of The 21st Century Performance Series in San Jose, Costa Rica, Hi, Seoul World Festival and Gwang-ju World Biennale in South Korea, Also played for Korean national TV show, “EBS Space Gong  -Gam” with Hyosun Kang, who is next generation of 46th ICH (Intangible Cultural Heritage) of Piri, Korean traditional flute and many more.


 Also, he was selected to record albums as a sideman for Yellow Light “Keep Goin’ On” (2018), Jae young Jeong “Deep Sea” (2018), Heechan Cha “Souvenirs de L’hiver” (2017) ,Haneul Park “Reminiscence” (2016), Leon Cotter “Playing the pool” (2013), Jazz Revelation Records “Ripple Effect” (2012), Saucy Lady “Diversify” (2011)
